We are excited to announce that Tadeáš Fryčák the Jan Opletal Grammar School in Litovel has won the national round of the prestigious Stockholm Junior Water Prize! 🌟🏆
Tadeáš's project, the Root Tracker software, automates data processing in root growth studies, saving biologists hours of work daily. This software, used by Palacký University since January 2023, has already processed thousands of images and helps scientists study the effects of chemicals on root systems.
Judges praised Tadeáš's research for its originality and valuable insights into carbon and water storage for plant growth and biodiversity. "He has a great perspective," said Slovak hydrologist Michal Kravčík.
Winning the national round allows Tadeáš to compete internationally in Stockholm. He will submit a paper, complete an online interview, and present a poster on-site. The winner receives USD 15,000, a trophy, and a diploma.
This year's People’s Choice Award went to Zuzana Urbanová for her work on microplastics in Brno, highlighting the community's role in scientific research.
The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is a global competition for high school students passionate about water and sustainability. The Czech Republic has participated since 2022, with the national round coordinated by the Platform of Vocational Excellence Water – Central Europe.
We are incredibly proud of Tadeáš Fryčák's accomplishments and wish him the best of luck in Stockholm! 🌍💧✨
