From the Netherlands to the Czech Mountains: Discovering Moravia During Water Days
From one of the world’s flattest countries to the mountains of the Czech Republic — the Water Days in Brno offer students much more than scientific learning.
During the programme, students do not only sample and analyse water. They also explore the diverse landscapes of the Moravian region, discovering how geography influences water systems and environmental challenges.
Field trips take participants to a variety of locations, including agricultural land, sewage water treatment plants, karst landscapes, and caves. These experiences allow students to see firsthand how water moves through different environments.
For Mees, a student from Yuverta in the Netherlands, the landscapes were one of the most memorable parts of the experience.
“For me, it was really great because I’m not used to the high landscape of the Czech Republic. There are a lot of mountains and streams, and we don’t have them as much in the Netherlands.”
By combining field research with exploration, Water Days gives students a unique opportunity to understand water not only as a scientific subject but also as part of the landscapes and ecosystems around us.
