At the PoVE Water Project, we’re focused on the vital role education plays in addressing water-related challenges. Through a series of interviews with industry professionals, educators, and environmental experts, we’ve gathered valuable insights on how skills development and practical training are key to sustainable water solutions.
In our latest video series, Asiphe Cosa, an industry professional, discusses why it’s essential to focus on practical education for tackling water challenges and the role students play in shaping a sustainable future. Gunther Frantz from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning explores the importance of equipping students with the skills needed for these challenges, and addresses the stigma that vocational education sometimes faces in South Africa.
We also spoke with Tom Bastiaan from Vitens, who explains the value of hackathons in driving innovation and collaboration among students to solve pressing water issues. Ms. Takalani Joyce Nekhavhambe from Vhembe TVET College shares her perspective on the role of colleges in forming key partnerships and why focusing on certain student groups is sometimes more beneficial than others when tackling water challenges. Finally, Anthony Van Wyk from the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning highlights the importance of practical, hands-on education in addressing water-related problems.
These interviews shed light on the significant role education plays in addressing global water challenges. Watch the full series to learn more about how collaboration, innovation, and education are shaping the future of water sustainability.
